French Open: Rafael Nadal Wins For The 14th Time
Rafael Nadal has emerged as the champion of Roland Garros for the 14th time after beating Casper Ruud in the final on Sunday.
The Spaniard increased his Masters 1000 Title record to its 22nd to be the all-time biggest winner followed by Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. Winning the title also made him the oldest champion in Roland Garros.
The former Number one clinched the title in three sets 6-3 6-3 6-0 and Casper efforts to hold off offensives from him didn't pay off.
After conceding the first set, the Norwegian managed to save three set points at the second but double faulted to hand Nadal the second set victory. The decider, however, was a cruise over for Nadal, bringing the match to a close after about two hours of play.
Nadal's performance this season has suffered some setback following his struggles with injuries and that was impeded his performance at the Italian Open last month.
"It takes a lot of energy to keep going," said Nadal. "I don't know what will happen in the future but I will keep fighting to keep going."
