Spanish Grand Prix: Charles Leclerc Takes Pole Despite Dramatic Start
Charles Leclerc recovered what an early mishap and strode through to claim pole position ahead of rival Max Verstappen following power failure.
It was a dramatic first lap for the Ferarri driver who spun of track on the first run. In the end he finished quickest while Verstappen came second for Red Bull.
The pole slid off Verstappen after accidentally suffering power failure on his last lap. Meanwhile, he started off well having the fastest pace on the first run. Carlos Sainz finished third for Red Bull.
"It was a very, very difficult session, especially the first run and then I only had one lap," Leclerc recalled.
While Lewis Hamilton finished sixth behind Red Bull's Sergio Perez, George Russell delivered Mercedes' best of the session for finishing fourth.
"I'm really struggling with the car this," Hamilton admitted to having a difficult season after winning a record seventh F1 Championship title in 2020 and narrowly losing the title defense to Verstappen last season in a dramatic final race in Abu Dhabi.
