Premier League: Manchester City Win 2021-22 Premier League Trophy
Manchester City are the champions of the 2021-22 Premier League season which they clinched in a remarkable late comeback that saw Aston Villa's lead for most of the game cancelled out.
The game that would determine who wins the title between Liverpool and City following a slim lead of the later over the former, ended in a 3-2 defeat of Villa. IIkay Gundogan, who came in as sub in the second half led the comeback and scored twice within five minutes to secured the trophy for the team.
Villa took an impressive lead early into the game when Matty Cash scored after half hour of play. They did the same after the break as newly-signed Philippe Coutinho doubled the lead. At this time, Liverpool were leading 1-0 over Wolves and City's hope to lift the trophy was heading for a shocking disappointment.
With 14 minutes left to play, Ilkay Gundogan pulled one back for City. Two minutes later, Rodri equalised the scores and at this point, that really was not enough to see them through to be champions.
As fortune will have it, three minutes later, Kevin de Bruyne capitalised on Tyrone Mings' defensive error and let a pass to Gundogan, who finished of the ball from close-range and put City in the lead for the victory.
Pep Guardiola successfully defended the title back-to-back with the team on his fourth Premier League title wins for the club.
