Novak Djokovic Reaches Final On 1000th Tour Match Win

Novak Djokovic has finally achieved his dream of reaching 1000th wins of ATP tour-level matches which he did at the semi-finals of Italian Open after defeating Casper Ruud in straight sets 6-4 6-3.

Making it to the milestone did not come easy for the 34-year-old as he had to battle through the quarter-finals against Canadian ace Felix Auger-Aliassime, who denied him a match point on his serve at 5-2 and rallied back to force a tiebreak. Djokovic won eventually in 7-5 7-6(1).

"I was seeing Roger (Federer) and Rafael (Nadal) reached those milestone last couple of years and I was looking forward to getting to that milestone myself," said Djokovic.

He continued: "I'm really really blessed and privileged to have that many victories on the tour."

The 20-time Grand Slam winner is on the track to securing his sixth Italian Open title and will face Greek player Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final.
