Champions League: Real Madrid Claim Thrilling Victory Over Man. City To Reach Final
Real Madrid made away with a thrilling injury time comeback to cancel out Manchester City's final game hope against Liverpool.
City were final bound after Riyadh Mazreh gave them the lead late in the second half but the tide suddenly turned and Karim Benzema's pass found Rodrygo for a turn in and he doubled that by nodding home Dani Carvajal's cross after a flick from Marco's Asensio. All this happened between 90th and 90th+1 minutes. Real lead by 2-1.
At this point, City were in dear need of pulling a goal back to push through to the final, Rodrygo yet struck again for a hattrick and was denied by City's goalkeeper Ederson.
Eventually, City dropped out for drawing a penalty when Benzema beat Reuben Diaz to a loose ball and was dropped in the box. The forward scored from the spot kick and led Real through to the final after beating City 3-1 - an aggregate of 6-5.
City failed to reach the final after losing last season, their first Champions League trophy bid to Chelsea in a 1-0 defeat. The Champions League remained the only title eluding Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
