Australian Grand Prix: Charles Leclerc Wins Race
Charles Leclerc is the winner of the 2022 Australian Grand Prix and he didn't just win the race but had the fastest lap while title defender Max Verstappen suffered an engine failure and drop out of the race.
Verstappen came into the race in second place behind Leclerc, who started in P1 for his first pole since 2019 and Sergio Perez in the third place but the Dutch driver suddenly pulled out on Lap 39 over suspicion of engine failure. On stepping out of his car, he noticed his car was gradually being engulfed in fire and safety car was deployed.
On the other hand, Leclerc was racing on in dominance of the race while his teammates Carlos Sainz had spun out on Lap 2.
Now, that Verstappen had dropped out, Leclerc was having only Sergio Perez as the one to keep at bay as he cruised through the remaining laps to finish quickest in 1:27:46.548s foe his second race win this season to lead the championship race by 71 points.
Red Bull's Perez finished the race in the second while Mercedes' George Russell finished third for his first podium position and former world F1 champion, Lewis Hamilton, was fourth ahead of McLaren's Lando Norris.
Amongst driver that dropped out was Aston Martin's Sebastian Vettel, who spunned and crashed into the walls on Lap 23 before pulling up by the side of the track for the safety car.
McLaren's Daniel Ricciardo finished sixth but was faced with battle from Aston Martin's Lance Stroll and William's Alex Albion on Lap 22 but the Aussie held his ground and kept on ahead.
