First Black Actor To Win Academy Award For Best Actor Passed Away
Iconic Hollywood actor, Sir Sidney Poitier whobis also the first black ma to win an Oscar for the best actor has passed away. He was aged 94.
Sidney was born in Miami, United States before he was taken to Bahamas by his parents and moved moved to the United States at the age of 15. He rose to fame when he won his first Oscar for his role in The Defiant Ones in 1958.
He followed up with that performance by winning the best actor for his role in Lilles of the Field in 1963 - first of it's kind for a black actor. He was regarded as the first black to be true Hollywood star.
The deceased statted his acting career as a high school student in the Blackboard Jungle in 1955 and since them has been a big name in the movie industry. Amongst nominations he received during his career was eight Gloden Globe nods, eight BAFTA nods and two nods for Primetime Emmy Awards.
