Spider-Man: No Way Home Becomes First $1B Film Since Pandemic

Since the Covid-19 pandemic, little was expected of most films as the industry was badly hit and some films were forced to be released on streaming platforms. At the time, thinking of a billion-dollar film can only be a dream.

Now, here comes the first film to cross the billion-dollar benchmark and it is Spider-Man: No Way Home that broke the pandemic jinx by raking in $1.05bn in global gross. That was far beyond the expectations as at the time of its premiere as the projection for the film was set for about $120m.

No Way Home on its first week shattered the projection set it to be the biggest grossing film of the year making $253m in the domestic market, and on top of that, it made $587m for the third biggest global debut of all-time after Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. The film is being that a big scorer at the box office since its debut.

Prior to the release of No Way Home, the Chinese film The Battle of Lake Changjin directed by Dante Lam, Chem Keige, and Tsui Hark was the biggest of the year since the pandemic with worldwide gross of $905m - it was that close to the benchmark.

James Bond: No Time To Die was another film that made it really biggest in the pandemic but yet remained in the million-dollar categories with worldwide gross of $774m. No other films have crossed mark since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. However, in the same year, Spider-Man: Far From Home made it first billion for Marvel with $1.132b.
