US Open: Novak Djokovic Rallied To Beat Matteo Berrettini, Advances To Semi-finals
Novak Djokovic remained resilient on his progression to take home his fourth Grand Slam this season and has reached the semifinals of the US Open to advanced towards that goal.
The world #1 recovered from losing the opening set to Matteo Berrettini and clinched victory in four sets 5-7, 6-2, 6-2, 6-3 to set up a semifinal match against Alexander Zverev.
Matteo brought his best into the match at the first set, holding the Serbian player to at least a deuce in six if 12 games played in the set. After nearly an hour and 29 minutes of play, he capitalized on a set point to outlast the top seeded player.
"It was a great match," said Djokovic. "A lot of energy on the court, off the court as well. Matteo is a terrific player, an established Top 10 player."
Meanwhile, Djokovic broke twice in the decider to seal the victory. Though, Matteo had more aces than him, he converted 74 percent of his first-serve points and claimed 44 winners. The win extended his match wins at Flushing Meadows to 80th.
