US Open: Daniil Medvedev Beats Novak Djokovic To Lift Title
Daniil Medvedev is the champion of the US Open and that will be his first ever Grand Slam title which he won after beating Novak Djokovic in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 on Sunday.
Djokovic found the Russian too tough to handle and only had a break in the decider when he managed to rallied at 3-5 by denying Medvedev a championship point.
"Amazing, amazing match," Djokovic confessed speaking after the defeat. "If there is anyone that deserves a grand slam title right now, it is you [Daniil Medvedev] ... I wish you many more grand slams and many more majors to follow."
The top seeded player couldn't hide his frustration in the second set when he smashed his racket over double faulting and committing two unforced errors that handed the Russian chance to break on his serve.
"I want to thank my team, those who are here and watching. My parents, my family, my sisters. Some of my friend are here too," said Medvedev.
Medvedev only dropped a set through the tournament and that was against the Dutch player B. van de Zandschulp in the quarter-finals.
