Lewis Hamilton Reaches 100th Victory
Lewis Hamilton has reached the milestone of a 100th victory at the Russian Grand Prix which is the biggest for a F1 driver while the pole-setter Lando Norris was impeded by the weather condition and missed out in the contest for podium position.
The unfavourable weather condition set off in the later part of the race in Sochi and the Briton had to prove his brilliance on the grid by recovering dropping behind Norris by 14 seconds to clinch the victory. Norris eventually dropped to seventh over delay he had in the pit changing his tires.
Max Verstappen made the podium in the second position despite starting in the seventh place. He vaulted through capitalising not only on the weather condition but had his tires changed early before the rain got heavier.
Unlike Verstappen, Mercedes had to order Hamilton to pit for changing of tire as the F1 champion would rather continued on his tire while the rain was expected to get heavier. The cost of not changing for a suitable on time tells more on Norris who was initially set for the victory.
Though Hamilton later acknowledged Norris had a good pace and showed a strong sense of control, the 21-year-old found the loss as unpleasant and what was basically his fault.
"I'm unhappy, devastated in a way. It was my decision, I thought it was the way to go," he said admitting his inexperience played out at the final.
