Tokyo 2020: Brazil's Rebeca Andrade Makes History In Women's Gymnastics As Yeo Seo-jeong Wins South Korea's First Medal
The Tokyo Olympics 2020 has produced it's own champion in women's gymnastics and it is Rebeca Andrade who emerged as the winner of the gold medal women's gymnastics which also was the first ever for her country, Brazil.
On Sunday morning, Rebeca stunned other contenders as she scored the highest point 15.083 in vault to claim the gold medal beaten United States' MyKayla Skinner and South Korea's Yeo Seo-Jeong. Last week, She came into the final as the silver medalist women's in all-round final.
What made her spectacular for her country at the Games was that the two medals are historic for the country. Besides winning the gold medal in women's gymnastics, she is the first athlete from.the country of colour ever to win a medal in all-round women's gymnastics.
South Korea's Seo-jeong couldn't hold back her tears when she was announced as the bronze medal winner. It was so because never before had that medal gone to the country in women's gymnastics. She scored 14.733 to trail American Skinner who scored 14.916 to win the silver medal.
Skinner could have had a better chance for a gold medal but had a twist on her arms and was not all together in her stunt, however, she worked it out well on landing. As a result, the judges couldn't help but pick on those lapses. Also, it might be her last appearance at the Olympics as she planned retiring after the Games.
