Lionel Messi Confirms Barcelona Exit Says "I Didn't Want To Leave"
From the academy to professional player, Barcelona is the only club known to have been Lionel Messi's home. As the summer window winds down, Nou Camp is obviously not the home for the player who confirmed leaving the club in an emotional speech.
Up until now, Messi leaving the club was a decision without any forms of certainty as he and the club yet agreed to a new five-year deal with 50% wages cut. That agreement threw out any doubt over leaving the club.
To the player's surprised upon his trip to Barcelona for contract confirmatio, , the club announced they can not afford him any longer and he would have to leave this summer.
"This year, my family and I were convinced we were going to stay at home (Barcelona)," said the striker tearfully. "That's what we all wanted more than anything."
Given the reason for calling off the agreement, the club's boss Joan Laporte blamed it on "financial and structural" issues which the league's spending rules will not allow.
"I've heard things said about me, that I didn't want to continue," the Argentine clarified on rumoured of his desire to leave the club.
Apparently, deep down his the six-time Ballon d'Or winner, leaving Barcelona was not really his plan. However, even at that, the club is finding it difficult to cope with weekly pay of £505,000 and couldn't help but ask him to leave.
He added, " "But on my life, we did everything we could because I wanted to stay. Last year, I didn't want to stay and I said it; this year, I wanted to stay and we couldn't. "
