Chelsea Beat Villarreal On Penalties To Win Uefa Super Cup
Chelsea are the winners of the UEFA Super Cup for the first time in 23 years. They defeated Villarreal in a shootout after playing 1-1 draw that forced the match into extra time.
Hakim Ziyech had scored the opening goal to put Chelsea ahead before the Spaniards came from behind to level up the scoring when Gerard Mereno struck home the equaliser midway through second half.
After a goalless extra time, Blues converted their spot kicks and sealed the victory when Kepa Arrizabalaga saved Raul Albiol's low-cut shoot for Chelsea to win by 6-5 on penalties.
Chelsea boss Tomas Tuchel had a lot to say about his goalkeeper Kepa who saved the Raul's that handed the side the trophy. When asked about the future of the keeper, he revealed talks are already ongoing on that.
"Kepa has the best percentage at savings penalties, the analysing guys and goalkeeping coaches showed me the data," he said in praise of Kepa.
The former Paris Saint-Germain was appointed as the club manager to replace Frank Lampard and he led the club to win their third Champions League title last season.
