Wimbledon: Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic Ease To Last Eight
Novak Djokovic is heading for a record-equalling 20th Grand Slam with Roger Federer as he progressed to the quarter-finals of Wimbledon. The Swiss also made it to the last eight after a decisively victory against Lorenzo Sonego.
The world number one was dominant in the round of 16 match against Cristian Garin, denying him two break advantages and breezed through straight sets 6 - 2, 6 - 4, 6 - 2 to make his 50th Grand Slam last eight appearance - he is only next to Federer in this regard.
"it's a privilege to break records in the sport that i truly love," said the top seeded player. "I'm devoted to this sport as much as I think anybody out there on the tour. I just try to do my best."
Reaching the quarter-final is another record for Federer, who is now the oldest man ever to reach the quarter-final of Wimbledon. The Swiss is now 40-year-old.
Federer was faced with resilience from Lorenzo in the first set, but after that, he comfortably took down his opponent in straight sets, 7-5 6-4 6-2.
"Last year I was thinking that I was watching guys play with very little crowd or no crowd," said Federer. "I felt like probably would have taken 70 or 80% of everything away from me."
