Tokyo 2020: Novak Djokovic Loses Bronze Medal To Carreno Busta

Novak Djokovic is having to leave the Tokyo Olympic Games without a medal after losing the bronze medal playoff match to Carreno Busta in three sets 6-4 6-7(6) 6-3.

The world number one was vying for a Golden Slam having won four Gram Slams already this season but he was outclassed by Alexander Zverev for a place in the final. Neither has the Serb won an Olympic medal in his career.

Djokovic admitted having a "regret" over returning home without a medal for his country, however, he blamed his performance on exhaustion and other factors that dropped his level of aggression to win.

"I do have a regret for not winning a medal for my country," he lamented in his speech after the match. "I didn't deliver yesterday and today, the level of tennis dropped, also due to exhaustion, mentally and physically."
