Lionel Messi Takes 50% Paycut To Stay At Barcelona
Lionel Messi will be committing even more years to his stint at Barcelona despite speculations that he might chose to leave the club where he has spent all his career. The attacker has reached a verbal agreement with the club to stay for five more years.
Just last weekend, the 34-year-old led his country to win Copa America which was his first major international title he ever won in his career -It was the country's first after 28 years of title-drought.
Speaking of his decision to remain, he explained the the club's president that it's up to him choose to either stay or leave. If he chose to leave, he is aware that a release clause of £700m will have to be triggered by any clubs interested in him.
However, the five-year contract is reportedly at a reduced pay of 50 percent cut. Even at that, the Argentine whose current contract already runs out on June 30 would not deterred from staying at Nou Camp.
