Euro 2020: England To Make First Final Appearance In Major Tournament In 55 Years
What a wonderful night it was for England to have made their first ever appearance in European competition since 1966? England won 2-1 against Denmark in the semifinals to end the drought.
England's victory was such that Denmark had to was watch their lead slid away in a comeback inspired by Raheem Sterling, whose strike by latching to Bukayo Saka's cross resulted to an own-goal from Simon Kyaer.
However, Mikkel Damsgaard's opening goal for the Dane was a sensational 30-yard finish from a free-kick, not long after his curled shot missed the net by inches. This time onward, the Dane came under repeated attack from the Three Lions with Sterling's side-footed shot from close range saved by Kasper Schmeichel.
Schmeichel showed a brilliant display of goalkeeping skills in the second half by denying England multiple attempts that could have given them the lead and forced the game into extra-time.
As England tried multiple time to the winning goal to no avail, Sterling made it happen by drawing a penalty after he was tripped by two Danish defenders in his bid to dribble past them. Harry Kane delivered the winning converting the spot kick from a rebound after Schmeichel saved his first attempt.
Making a final appearance will be England's first in a major tournament since 1966 World. It will be the longest reappearance in the history of both major tournaments - World Cup and Euro.
