British GP: Lewis Hamilton Wins Dramatic Final
Lewis Hamilton, after a long haul having to lose races to Max Verstappen, regained the podium top spot by winning his eighth British Grand Prix in a dramatic final at Silverstone.
Silverstone witnessed a fierce showdown of supremacy between Hamilton and Verstappen that resulted in the latter crashing out on Lap1 following a collision for which the Mercedes driver was handed a 10-second penalty. Even at that, Hamilton yet emerged as the winner of the race despite being battled by Charles Leclerc on Lap50 of Lap52.
Though, the incident generated discrepancies over the penalty given, Hamilton maintained he is not solely to blame for the accident. The victory ended Hamilton's five-race winless run after Verstappen completed his first hat-trick at Austrian GP.
"Regardless of whether I agree with the penalty, I take it to the chin" Hamilton explained his position on the incident. "I was like I'm not going to let anything get in the way of the crowd's enjoyment of the weekend, the national anthem and the British flag."
Following Hamilton in the second place was Ferrari Charles Leclerc and Valtteri Bottas finished third for a podium appearance. The win restored Mercedes hope for a F1 Championship title defence as Hamilton now trailed the Red Bull driver, Verstappen, by eight points.
