Euro 2020: England Snapped Winless Jinx Against Germany After 55 Years
Beating Germany to make Euro 2020 quarter-finals qualification ended England's 55-year-long winless run against the opponents they defeated by 2-0 at the Wembley Stadium on Tuesday.
England could not find the back of Germany's net until Raheem Sterling inspired an offensive by dribbling past two German defenders and did a one-two ball with Luke Shaw then, latched into a through pass from Shaw and tapped home the opening goal from close range in 75th minutes.
For the most part of the game, Harry Kane was quiet but would later double the lead shortly after Tomas Muller failed to convert a fast break for the qualifier for Germany. The England captain ran into Jack Grealish's cross and slid to nod the ball into the net with four minutes remaining.
However, that was not to mention that Germany did put Jordan Pickford to test from Kai Havertz and Timo Werner's shot that he brilliantly saved - Havertz smacked a right-footed shot from near the edge of the box only for Pickford to palmed it over the goal post.
Amongst high-profile individuals that were present at the stadium to watch the match was former Real Madrid and Manchester United player David Beckham and British pop singer Ed Sheeran. The game was played in front of 40,000 audiences. England will now face Ukraine in the quarter-final on Saturday.
