Chelsea Extend Thomas Tuchel's Contract Until 2024
Thomas Tuchel's contract has been extended until the summer of 2024 following the club's emergence as the champions of the 2020/21 European Champions League season.
The former manager of Paris St-Germain was appointed as the club's manager in January, replacing Frank Lampard who was ousted after leading the team to five winless runs.
Confirming the new contract signed with the German manager, Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia explained that the club was encourage to keep Tuchel longer because he was able to bring the club back to the top four in the domestic league and successful run in the European Champions League.
"Returning us to the top four in the Premier League was crucial and we could not be happier with our success in the Champions League, which crowned a remarkable season at Chelsea," said Marina.
Chelsea defeated their league-mates Manchester City 1-0 at the final of the Champions League in Porto, Portugal to lift the trophy for the third time in the club's history. However, it was City's season appearance in the final and Pep Guardiola's second with the club.
Blues were ninth in the EPL standings when Tuchel assumed duty as the new hed coach. He ended the season winning 19 in 30 games amongst which was just five defeats.
