Zinedine Zidane Tells Reasons For Leaving Real Madrid
Zinedine Zidane has opened up on what led to his decision to step down from his role as Real Madrid manager for the second time. It was first rumored that he might be replaced by Antonio Conte before the club confirmed the shocking news of his exit.
Should there be a reason for that decision, he opened up that it was because Real "no longer had faith" in him but it was not that he was "tired" of being the team boss.
Real finished second behind Atletico Madrid, who emerged as the Spanish La Liga champions for the first time in seven years after winning 2-1 against Real Valladolid in the league final game.
"I'm leaving because I feel the club no longer has the faith in me I need, nor the support to build something in the medium or long term. I understand football and I know the demand of a club like Real Madrid," Zidane wrote in an open letter to the club fans.
During his first stint as the club manager, Zidane made history as the first and only manager to win three Champions League tournaments in a row, which he did in 2015-16, 2016-17, and 2017-18 seasons.
After that remarkable performance, he stepped down from the role to take a sabbatical leave from football management. He soon returned after Santiago Solari was dismissed following the team's poor performance.
He added, "Of course, I'm not the best coach in the world, but I'm able to give everyone, whether it's a player, a member of the coaching staff, or any employee, the strength and confidence they need in their job."
