Leicester City Are FA Cup Champions For First Time
Leicester City has emerged as the champions of the FA Cup for the first time in their history after narrowly defeating Chelsea 1-0 at Wembley Stadium. The shocking defeat came off a 25-yard shot from Youri Tieleman minutes after an hour of play.
Foxes have had four unsuccessful appearances in the final of the competition and took down the dominant side Chelsea when Tieleman wasted no time attempting a long-range shot that beat Blues goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. The 2016/17 Premier League champions added the silverware to the shelf on their fifth attempt.
Goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel denied Chelsea two crucial goals from Ben Chilwell and Mason Mount and a last-minute rescue goal from Chilwell that could have kept Blues' hope alive was ruled out after the referee consulted the VAR.
Despite the loss, Blues did not go down easy on their quest for third FA Cup glory except that the brilliant goalkeeping sense of Schmeichel saved their opponents from being forced into overtime. The loss denied Chelsea's newly appointed manager Thomas Tuchel what could have been his first silverware. Nevertheless, Blues will face Manchester City in the final of the Champions League.
