Jose Mourinho To Join AS Roma As Head Coach From Next Season
AS Romas will welcome Jose Mourinho as the new manager starting from next season, less than a month after he was sacked at Tottenham Hotspur.
The Italia Serie A side announced the appointment on Tuesday that the Portuguese will replace their current head coach Paulo Fonseca at the club with which he has signed a three-year contract - Roma is seventh with 55 points in the league.
"Thank you to the Friedkin family for choosing me to lead this great club," said Mourinho who in a statement expressed his delight in joining a side that shared a similar "ambition" of winning that has been the driving force of his career.
Mourinho was dismissed at the Premier League side the day after playing a 2-2 draw against Everton that brought his 17-month reign at the club to a sudden end. The team's performance was blamed for his dismissal.
He added, "The incredible passion of the Roma fan convinced me to accept the job and I cannot wait to start next season."
The deal signed with Roma will mark Mourinho's return to Italia after over a decade - he led Inter Milan to win five silverware include Champions League and two league titles during his reign at the club between 2008 and 2010.
