Champions League: Chelsea Are Champions For The Second Time
Manchester City has failed to lift the Champions League trophy on their second appearance in the final of the competition. Meanwhile, their opponents, Chelsea, emerged as the champions having won 1-0 against the Premier League champion.
Thomas Tuchel, who was appointed as Blues' boss following the dismissal of Frank Lampard, ended the team's Champions League title drought since 2012 in his debut season and on the club's third appearance in the final.
The victory was delivered to the team by Kai Havert who dribbled past Citizens' goalkeeper Ederson and lashed on the winning goal before half hour. Havertz was inspired to take on the defense when Mason Mount found him with a through pass that resulted in his first goal in the Champions League.
Tuchel had proven to have the upper hand over Pep Guardiola with three successive wins against the latter. Before this game, Tuchel had led the team to beat City before his team eliminated Pep's men in the FA Cup semi-final, the final which his team lost to Leicester City.
