Belgrade 2 Open: Novak Djokovic Lifts Title

Novak Djokovic survived an early scare and defeated Slovakian opponent Alex Molcan in a straight-setter 6-4, 6-3 in his hometown, Belgrade, for his 83rd career title.

During the final that lasted for an hour and a half, Molcan stunned the world number one by breaking his service and claimed six break points to win the opening set that lasted for 45 minutes.

"We played here one month ago [at the Serbia Open], without a crowd. To hold a trophy here after 10 years is really special," he recalled. "It couldn't be better ahead of Roland Garros. I am playing well, feeling good and I have spent quality time with my family."

Molcan on the other hand was vying for his career-first title of the season while Djokovic (83) closes the gap with Rafael Nadal (88) on all-time Open Era singles title standing that is led by Jimmy Connors (109).
