Alexander Zverev Wins Second Madrid Open Title

Alexander Zverev is the Madrid Open champion for the second time in his career after he had won the final against Matteo Berrettini on Sunday.

The world number six survived an early scare from Berrettini, who battled through a tiebreak to win the opener but was outlasted by the German in three sets 6-7(8), 6-4, 6-3.

Meanwhile, the Italian had an excellent composure in the set which he won despite letting a 5-0 lead slip in the tiebreak before Zverev double-faulted and handed him the victory. He denied the German a championship point in the decider before he struck a backhand shot wide and lost his bid for his career's first Masters 1000 title .

"I feel awesome. It's great," said Zverev. "I didn't play too many guys this week who can serve like him, so it was a difficult match."

En route to the victory in Madrid that turned out to be his second ATP major singles title of the season, Zverev defeated both Dominic Thiem and Rafael Nadal in the semi-final and quarter-final respectively.
