Kamaru had promised earlier before the fight that he would defend his title for the fourth time in a row by delivering a stunning victory against Masvidal.

Disappointed of losing to the defending champion, Masvidal lamented having to be knocked out for the first time in his career and right in front of his family and friends.
"First time in my career," Masvidal recalled. "And it's in front of all my people, my family, and my friends, so it hurts. I've never been knocked out in 50 pro fight."
