Rafael Nadal Wins 13th Barcelona Open Title
Rafael Nadal fought off a scare from Greek player Stefano Tsitsipas to lift his 12th Barcelona Open title in a three-setter final, 6-4 6-7(6) 7-5 that lasted for three hours and 38th minutes.
The Spaniard was near losing the title tp Tsitsipas and denied him the needed championship point at 30/40 in the decider when the runner-up netted the top-seeded player's forehand shot.
Similarly in the second, Nadal could have rounded up the match in two sets but was unable to convert two match points at 5-4 and the Greek went on to force a tiebreak to win the set.
"After almost a year of not being able to experience playing in front of a crowd, these are incredible feelings," said Nadal recalling the cancellation of last year's tournament due to the coronavirus pandemic.
