Manchester City Become Winners Of Carabao EFL Cup For Fourth Time
Manchester City have emerged as the winners of the League Cup for the fourth time as they defeated Tottenham Hotspur to lift the silverware at Wembley Stadium.
Spurs had just changed their coaching crew making Ryan Mason an interim manager following the dismissal of Jose Mourinho. The final game of the competition which could have been Mason's first silverware turned out to be his first defeat as the club's head coach.
Despite City having the domination and chances to win, it almost the full stretch of the game time before Aymeric Laporte jumped high enough to get his head to Kevin de Bruyne's cross for a header that beat Spurs defense and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris to the net with eight minutes.
More than 8,000 spectators were at the stadium to watch the final which was the first for a stadium to hosts such crowds since the coronavirus pandemic. Each side had 2,000 of their fans amongst in the stands to witness the final.
City, who are coasting to lifting their first Premier League title since 2018/2019, have also gained their advantage following Manchester United's goalless draw against Leeds United - they need to win just two games to become the champions.
