Emilia Romagna GP: Max Verstappen Beats Lewis Hamilton To Win Race Amidst Chaotic Start
Max Verstappen made away with a crash incident to emerge as the winner of Emilia Romagna Grand Prix for his first race victory of the season as Lewis Hamilton finished in the second.
Hamilton trailed the Red Bull driver by a huge margin when his car crashed with final lap, but he was able to recover fast and raced on to keep in the trail McLaren's Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc both of whom finished the race in third and fourth. But, the defending champions' incident allowed Verstappen to be undeterred through the last lap and finish quickest in 2:02:34.598s.
The race started off chaotic with crash incidents involving Valterri Bottas and Goerge Russell, and besides Hamilton having a crash, Verstappen also half-spun but was able to quickly regain control and sped off only for Hamilton to chase on.
"It was very challenging out there, especially in the beginning," said Verstappen. "It was very hard to stay on track. With tyres degrading in the wet, to choose the right moment to go to stick is never easy."
The weather was not that very favorable - started wet and later dry - and did played the trick on the drivers, except that experience played a vital role in both Verstappen and Hamilton recovering fast to finish the race in leading positions.
