Emilia Romagna GP: Lewis Hamilton Wins 99th Pole
Lewis Hamilton won his first pole of the season in a thrilling finish edging out Red Bull duo Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen to clinch his career 99th pole in the qualifying session of the Emilia Romagna GP.
While Mercedes had a good day with Hamilton taking the pole, his teammate Valterri Bottas finished way down the bottom of the top 10. Though a very close race in the Q3 but Hamilton secured the pole in the first lap doing 1:41.411 to emerge quickest.
Verstappen, who won the first pole of the season at the Bahrain GP, for the first time since 2018 loss trailed a teammate in standings having finished 0.042s behind Perez - his Spaniard teammate finished second behind Hamilton.
Hamilton admitted the victory was a narrow one for him because what was being "ahead of the two Red Bulls" considering that "they have been so quick" at the start of the qualifier.
