La Liga: Karim Benzema's Brace Lifts Real Madrid Over Elche
Karim Benzema delivered a spectacular finishing acumen to help Real Madrid seal a 2-1 victory over Elche by canceling out their opponents' lead after scoring two goals in the deciding half of the game.
Dani Calvo gave the visitors the lead by nodding home Morente Olivie's cross after Courtois had denied Olivie of giving the side their opening goal after the halftime break.
Benzema later found the equalizer for the team by heading home Modric's cross and completed the scoring with a superb right-footed volley that clipped the bottom right of the woodwork and bounced right into the net to seal the victory on stoppage time.
Zinedine Zidane's decision to bring on Modric in the second half paid off as the Croatian inspired the equalizer just eleven minutes later after replacing Isco. Real remained second in La Liga standouts with eight points behind table leaders Atletico Madrid.
