63rd Grammy Awards: Five Nigerian Artists Win As Beyonce Makes History
Nigerian artists are beginning to make their careers felt all over the world, and that the organizers of the Grammy Awards have taken notice of them. It happened that, this year's 63rd annual ceremony eventually turned out to be when they are getting rewarded for their contributions to the industry.
Five artists picked up a Grammy at the event which was held behind closed doors following the coronavirus pandemic guideline. Son of the great Afrobeat singer and pioneer, Femi Kuti and his son, Omorinmade, are amongst the lucky winner at the event. Tiwa Savage, Wizkid, and Burna Boy also made the list.
Beyonce whose collaboration with Wizkid Brown Skin Girl grabbed the best music video award, won her 28th Grammys to set a record for the most wins ever by a singer and a female artist in the history of the event. Also, the Lemonade singer's daughter, Blue Ivy, 9, received her own Grammy for featuring in Brown Skin Girl.
Amongst winners at the event were Megan Thee Stallion, Harry Styles, Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift who won her third album of the year award. Eilish who sang the theme song for upcoming James Bond film No Time To Die, took home Record of the Year award.
