Premier League: Liverpool Take First Home Defeat Against Man. City Since 2003
Liverpool's title defensive has suffered a massive setback as Manchester City remained comfortable in table leadership after thrashing Reds 4. The defeat ended Citizens' 18 years of inability to claim a league game victory at Anfield Stadium.
It was not the game where you see the best of Reds' goalkeeper Allison who was the cause of two goals for making expensive errors that helped Citizens gain control of the game. Raheem Sterling played a vital role in opening the Reds' defense for easy penetration for his teammates.
After both sides played through a goalless half, they returned with Ilkay Gundogan opening the scoring tapping home a rebound shot inspired by Sterling. Liverpool responded with Mohamed Salah converting a spot-kick but the team slid back in the trail after a sloppy ball clearance landed on Phil Foden's feet and found Gundogan with a pass for an easy tap in from close range.
Allison apparently perplexed by the error committed early, again poorly cleared the ball into Bernand Silva's path and he set up Sterling for a header with a cross and Foden slammed a left-footed shot home from inside the box.
The game ended to be Pep Guardiola's first home victory against Liverpool at Anfield as Citizens' manager as the club extended league leadership by five points over the nearest team Manchester United. Moreso, it was the club's 14 straight win, equalling the all-time winning streak for a top-flight team jointly held by Arsenal (1987) and Preston (1892).
