Lewis Hamilton Signs New Contract With Mercedes
Lewis Hamilton has retained his place with Mercedes for the 2021 season as they have both agreed to a new deal ahead of the start of the new season.
The seven-time F1 champion and the racing team have been in talks about signing a new contract which was rumoured to worth £40million per year amidst the sport's new guideline that will suggest what a driver can get from signing a contract. However, that will not come into effect until after the end of this season.
It will be Hamilton's ninth season with Mercedes during which he will be contending for a record-breaking eighth F1 world championship title. Already, he equals the previous record of seven F1 championship titles held by former Ferrari driver Michael Schumacher.
"I'm proud to say we are taking that effort further this year by launching a foundation dedicated to diversity and inclusion in the sport," said Hamilton. "I am inspired by all that we can build together and can't wait to get back on the track in March."
The new deal is understood to worth something in the region of £35million and will only last until the end of this season,
