Hamilton, Mercedes Recognized For Laureus World Sports Awards


Lewis Hamiton's trophy-winning streak might not only be in Formula 1 as he and his racing team, Mercedes, have been recognized for Laureus World Sports Award for the fourth-time in a row.

The two-time winner was nominated for the Sportsman of the Year category following his performance last season when he won clinched his seventh world championship title and likewise Mercedes - that was the team's constructors' seventh consecutive dominance of the title.

"It's an honour to have been nominated for Laurez World Sportsman of the Year alongside some truly incredible athletes," said Hamilton who won the prize last year. 

Contending against Mercedes in Team of the Year categories are NBA's Los Angeles Lakers, Bayern Munich, Chiefs (NFA), Los Pumas (Argentina rugby team), and Liverpool FC. 

Hamilton continued, "When I look back at the award ceremony last year, it's hard to believe just how much has changed. 2020 was a difficult year for so many people, for many different reasons, and of course, the world of sport was hugely affected.
