Australian Open: Serena Williams Beats Simona Halep To Reach Semi-final

 


Former WTA world number one, Serena Williams, has reached the Australian Open semi-finals as she advanced closer to earning her 24th Grand Slam title that has eluded her since she gave birth to her daughter Olympia in 2017. 

Serena outlasted her 2018 US Open conquest Simona Halep in straight sets 6-3 6-3 by claiming 6 in 13 break advantages and hitting 24 winners to establish her qualification for the Last Four of the tournament - it was the pair's meeting since then. 

The mother-of-one is on course to equal the previous record set by retired Australian ace Magaret Court for the all-time biggest Women's Grand Slam titles if won her career 24th in Melbourne.

Speaking after the match, Serena admitted that without a doubt, playing against the Romanian was her "best match this tournament" and will play against Japanese ace Naomi Osaka in the next match.
