Australian Open: Daniil Medvedev Step Up Final Against Novak Djokovic
Daniil Medvedev has secured his first-ever Australian Open final appearance after breezing past Greek opponent Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semi-finals. The victory brings the Russian's winning streak to 20 victories in a row and he is also vying for his first-ever Grand Slam title.
Tsitsipas was well under Medvedev's control until the deciding set when he managed to stage a rally but yet in futility as the world number four roared back and had him eliminated in three sets, 6-4 6-2 7-5.
Medvedev denied his opponent two out of three break advantages while he won 5-in-9 hitting 46 winners as against 21 unforced errors committed. He remained the dominant pair in the head-to-head series against Tsitsipas having won 6-in-7 meetings.
"I don't have an answer [regarding my winning streaks]," said Medvedev. "I was just working hard all my life, and I am really happy at those moments. It is going to stay with me [all my life]."
