Premier League: Manchester City Take League Leadership From Win Against Sheffield
Gabriel Jesus netted the decider for Manchester City as the club takes table leadership from the maximum points gained from 1-0 victory against Sheffield United.
Citizens extended their winning streak to 12 league game wins in a row for a club-record feat for victory and the manager pep Guardiola did commend the players for "fighting like animals" to be the league leaders with three points clear closest team, Manchester United.
The game was decided early into the game when the Brazilian forward lashed the ball home from close range to earn his first goal of the season after making a comeback from a thigh injury and testing positive for coronavirus in December.
"It was an incredible performance," said Guardiola. "We played incredibly well in many areas. We conceded few chances. We didn't create much, but enough to win the game."
Guardiola led the club to win a domestic treble in 2018/2019 that made him the first manager to achieve the feat in English football history.
