Premier League: Manchester City Beat Aston Villas To Take Brief Table Lead
Manchester City managed to sneak to the top of the table after beating Aston Villa 2-0, however, they stand to lose the position to the trailing side and next-door neighbors, Manchester United.
Villa have not played since New Year's Day over coronavirus outbreak in the team and were resilient on the return to the pitch against City until late into the game when Bernado Silva ended the status quo.
Silva slammed home a through from Rodri to give the side the lead that was later doubled on the brink of full-time by IIkay Gundogan from a penalty drawn by Gabriel Jesus for Villa's Matty Cash's rough tackle.
Meanwhile, Citizens had massive 25 attempts at the goal, and Silva was also denied Villa's goalkeeper four minutes into the match. Also, Rodri's assist on the opening goal was protested against for being in an offside position by Villa manager Dean Smith and the coach was sent-off by the referee.
Kevin de Bruyne's slip could have handed Villa their only goal of the game but emerson saved Bertrand Traore's attempt. The Citizens' goalkeeper later saved another attempt from Douglas Luiz.
