Manchester United Defender Joins Bayer Leverkusen For £1.8M

Timothy Fosu-Mensah has ended his six-year spell at Manchester United after completing a transfer to Bayer-Leverkusen in a three and a half year contract worth £1.8million on Wednesday.

The defender, 23, did not enjoy the luxury of having enough game appearances at United and spent most of his time at the club on loan - Crystal Palace (2017/18), Fulham (2018-19). He only made one league game appearance for the club this season.

Speaking of his transfer, Bayer's sporting director, Simon Rolfes, expressed his confidence in the Holland international to improve, being a "physically strong" player with pace who has age on his side.

"Timothy is a technically adept, fast, and physically strong defender who can be used as a right-back and also in the centre," said Rolfes. "Tim is still young and capable of development."

The Germans are third in the Bundesliga and are amongst favorites to contest for the league title this season against defending champions, Bayern Munich.
