Halle Berry Disappointed She Remain Only Black Women To Have Won Oscar's Best Actress

Halle Berry has come out to express an expectation that is yet to materialize at the Academy Award, which she had hoped by 2002 actress award in 2002 would have opened the door to other actresses from her community. One thing she thought would have followed her ground-breaking attainment was that more women of color would have won the same prize just like her - an expectation which yet remains elusive.

The Academy has really been doing a lot in terms of inclusivity and diversification yielding to an outcry that it has not been representing people from ethnic minorities. Just last year it introduced some new measures to ensure this. Nonetheless, Berry, can not wait to see more women of color getting to emerge as the winners of the same prize that she won nearly two decades ago.

Speaking about her opinion on this, she told a tabloid Mirror that on that night she won the best actress, she would not have thought she would remain the only woman of color ever to win the prize until now.

"I really thought that night meant that very soon after that, other women of color, Black women, would stand beside me," she said.

Though a total of five black actresses have followed the Catwoman star in recognition for a prize in that category, none has notched the prize rather their counterparts have consistently taken home the award. She described this as "heartbreaking".
