FA Cup: Southampton Kick Out Arsenal In Fourth Round
FA Cup defending champions, Arsenal, have been removed from the competition in the fourth round by Southampton in a 1-0 that came off an own-goal.
Saints' offensive play pay off after three attempts as Leno Bernd poorly saved Walker-Peters' right-footed shot that Gabriel ran into and turned in to give the hosts the lead.
Compared to Arsenal, the Saints had had two attempts at the goal before taking the lead - James Ward-Prowse's corner had first clipped the crossbar before Che-Adam dribbled past two Gunners' defenders and lashed a low-cut shot from close range that Leno carefully parried into safety.
Arsenal did have their moment when Nicolas Pepeslipped a pass to Eddie Nketiah, who flicked a shot at the goal but was stopped by Frazer Forster using his left leg.
Gunners' manager Mikel Arteta lifted his first trophy with the team by winning the silverware last season and went on to win the Community Shield for his second trophy with the club in his debut season.
Nonetheless, they are far from the Premier League title race this season, and their quest to defend this title has just been forfeited as the Saints will meet Wolverhampton in the next round.
