EFL Cup: Pep Guardiola Dedicates Reaching Final To Colin Bell and Family
Manchester City reached their fourth consecutive Carabao Cup semi-final in a 2-0 victory against Manchester United that saw Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solkjaer losing out in four semis in a row in all competitions.
United were punished twice for defensive errors that handed their Manchester neighbours the scoring chances to qualify for the final. However, Red Devils put up a good show against Citizens, coming closest to take the lead with a superb shot from Bruno Fernandes.
Kevin de Bruyne lashed a shot that clipped the pole before John Stones tapped home a loose ball for City's lead and Fernandinho doubled the scoring smashing home a poor head clearance by Aaron Wan-Bissaka with eleven minutes remaining.
Delighted in leading the club to its fourth consecutive appearance, Guardiola dedicated the victory to the club's legend Colin Ben who scored 153 goals in 501 appearances between 1966 and 1979.
The Spaniard continued, "We have to play and defend legacies like Colin Bell and Mike Summerbee helped us to create at this incredible club. It was an honour to see [Summerbee] after the game."
