Chelsea Sack Frank Lampard Over Performance

Frank Lampard's reign as Chelsea manager came to an abrupt end as the club's former midfielder has been sacked following a poor run in league games that dropped the club to ninth in the table.

Chelsea made it to the fifth round of the FA Cup by beating Luton 3-1 with Tammy Abraham scoring a hat-trick, yet the victory could not help secure the manager's job. The 41-year-old only lasted for 18-month as the manager of the club.

The club's billionaire owner, Roman Abramovich, in a statement, mentioned that ousting Lampard was a difficult decision but could not help letting him go following the team's recent performance - Chelsea have only won two in eight recent league games.

It is understood that the club's management is considering hiring former Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel to replace Lampard - Thomas was sacked at Paris Saint-Germain in December on Christmas Eve.

"We are grateful to Frank [Lampard]," said the club in a statement. "However, recent results and performances have not met the club's expectations, leaving the club mid-table without any club path to sustained improvement."
