Chelsea Appoint Thomas Tuchel To Replace Frank Lampard
Thomas Tuchel has been named as the new head coach appointed by Chelsea to replace their former manager Frank Lampard who was sacked on Monday.
The German, 47, returned to football management after being sacked at Paris Saint-Germain in December on Christmas Eve. However, the dismissal of Lampard was following the team's performance which the club said fell below their expectations.
Confirming the appointment, the Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia said the club is glad to secure the signing of Tuchel despite it being mid-season - a time that is difficult for a club to change head coach.
Tuchel speaking on his new job said: "I would like to thank Chelsea FC for their confidence in me and my staff. We all have the greatest respect for Frank Lampard's work and the legacy he created at Chelsea."
Chelsea reached the FA Cup final under Frank Lampard but lost the title-quest to Arsenal who progressed to win the Community Shield. However, Lampard is yet the all-time biggest goalscorer, secured the team's qualification to the Champions League for this season.
