Sakhir GP: Sergio Perez Wins First F1 Race

George Russell fell short of expectations that he could make a debut race win for Mercedes at the Sakhir Grand Prix as Racing Points Sergio Perez snatched the final race for his first F1 victory.

Perez, who also had to pit after the first Lap after being hit by Ferarri's Charles Leclerc gave a good chase and sped by the Mercedes drivers and every effort resulted in they having their tires punctured.

Russell delivered a stunning performance at the qualifying session finishing second behind Valterri Bottas and the Mercedes duo was in the lead before the unexpected happened - they had a punctured tire and it was caused by the team putting the wrongs on the pair's cars.

Lewis Hamilton was ruled out of Sahkir GP for testing positive for coronavirus symptoms and Russell was contracted to stand-in for the seven-time F1 champion.

However, failing to make at least the podium on debut race final for Mercedes might seem disappointing for Russell, but finishing in the ninth behind Bottas scored him his first points for the first time ever in his F1 career.

Perez's teammate Lance Stroll also made a podium position in the third behind Renault's Esteban Ocon that also appeared on the podium for the first time in his F1 career.
