Roger Federer Rules Out Playing In 2021 Australian Open

Former world number one Roger Federer has ruled out participating in the Australian Open to allow him recovery from knee surgery.

Federer had opened up on the possibilities of missing the tournament for the first time in his career midway in December as he was uncertain about the pace of his recovery from two operations he had in January.

The event director Craig Tiley said in a statement that the six-time champion can not make the tournament as he is already late to get "ready for the rigours of a Grand Slam."

Federer has not played at any tournament since January when he was knocked out of the Australian Open in the semi-final by Novak Djokovic.
