Premier League: Edouard Mendy's Error Hands Everton Victory Over Chelsea
Chelsea missed out on the needed maximum points to take the table lead in a 1-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park following a penalty needlessly gifted away by Blues' Edouard Mendy.
Mendy dropped Gylfi Siguroson in a challenge for the ball in the box and handed away the spot-kick which the Iceman converted to put the hosts in the lead.
Everton had the best of the game over their opponents with scoring chances that could have widened the goal margin. By the way, the hosts could have doubled the lead but the VAR ruled awarding another to the side when Dominic Calvert-Lewin was fouled in the box.
Chelsea also had a fair chance of getting an equalizer late into the match but Mason Mount's attempted shot clipped the bar. In all, it was not the best performance expected by the London-based club.
The goal scorer Siguroson played in place of Everton's newly-signed James Rodriguez during which they secured their third consecutive league game win over Chelsea. They have now moved a place up in the table to be in the sixth position.
